BSO Deputy Officially Charged With Rape Of Inmate

by Carey Codd

POMPANO BEACH (CBS4) ― The Broward Sheriff's office has launched an internal investigation on one of its own deputies after a female inmate alleged she was kidnapped and raped.

Officials suspended Charles Floyd with pay after an inmate that he was transporting from a Pompano Beach police station to the North Broward jail accused him of the rape. According to the woman, Floyd was transporting her and three other women on June 13th, when he dropped off two of them at the jail but kept her in the van. She then alleges he drove her to a shopping center nearby where he raped her.

Officials have collected a DNA sample to compare it with evidence they have in their case.

Floyd is not facing any charges at this point, and BSO says that they are looking into the claims.

"It's important to at least reserve judgment until the investigation is complete," said BSO Spokesperson Eliott Cohen.

CBS4 was not able to reach Floyd for comment, but a police union representative told CBS4's Carey Codd that Floyd denies the allegations and is shaken up by them.
