Second teen charged in Palm Beach County rape

(AP) -- A second teenager was jailed Thursday in the rape of a 42-year-old woman who was attacked outside her apartment in July, police said.

The 15-year-old, who lives in West Palm Beach, is charged with sexual assault with a weapon and robbery. He was arrested Wednesday and ordered held without bond Thursday.

The victim told investigators she pulled up to her residence shortly after 11 p.m. July 15 and was confronted by a group of six people. She said she was raped while a group of teens watched, some shouting ''Hurry up'' and ''Me next,'' according to a Palm Beach County sheriff's report.

A 14-year-old from Mangonia Park was arrested in the case on July 27 and is held on charges of sexual assault and robbery. The victim identified her attacker, who later admitted having sex with her but denied it was rape, according to the sheriff's report.

Authorities have also identified several other suspects, ranging in age from 11 to 15, and more arrests are pending. However, only the 14-year-old is accused of raping the woman while the others, including the 15-year-old, ''actively participated by assisting and/or encouraging his actions,'' according to the report.

It was not immediately clear if the 15-year-old had an attorney. A telephone number listed in his arrest report was disconnected.

The attack occurred just about a month after a brutal gang rape and beating of another woman at the nearby Dunbar Village housing project in West Palm Beach. Four teenagers are charged in that case.
