OCALA, Fla. (AP) - A jury has recommended the death penalty for a man convicted of killing a retired Michigan woman in a central Florida retirement community.
The decision rests with Judge Brian Lambert, but he must consider the jury's opinion. His written ruling is not expected for weeks.
Jurors found 19-year-old Renaldo McGirth guilty of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery and felony fleeing.
He was charged in connection with the 2006 shooting death of 63-year-old Diana Miller in her home in The Villages. Miller's husband was also shot in the attack, but he survived.
