Inmate Uses Bible to Pound Ink Pen Into Eye

OCALA, FL (AP) -- A Marion County Jail inmate tried to commit suicide by hammering an ink pen in to his left eye with a Bible. Corrections officers tasered Lester Williams to prevent him from further harming himself Saturday night.

The 28-year-old Williams' eye was not seriously injured. After being treated at Shands hospital at the University of Florida, Williams was brought back to the jail, strapped down and placed on suicide watch.

He has been in the jail since 2003 on charges including sexual battery, false imprisonment and battery on an inmate and a law enforcement officer.
