LCSO investigates death of inmate

DEMOCRAT STAFF REPORT

Jonathon G. Howe, 24, was found dead in his cell in the Leon County Jail today at 4:50 p.m., according to the Leon County Sheriff’s Office. He was discovered by a correctional officer in his cell.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that sometime between 3:45 p.m. and 4;50 p.m, Howe used a bed sheet to hang himself from a bed bunk in his cell. No foul play is suspected, but an autopsy will be conducted Friday to determine the cause of death.

Howe had been incarcerated in the jail since his arrest on Dec. 10, 2008, and was charged with burglary and violation of probation. Howe was housed in general population in Jail Pod “A” and had no behavioral history which would indicate he was a threat to himself or others.
