Man Imprisoned for Killing Mother Beaten by Cellmate

A Suwannee County man sentenced to life in prison for killing his mother was beaten by another inmate and hospitalized just days after his arrival.

A Florida Department of Corrections spokesperson says William Robert Elliott was beaten by his cellmate on May 11th.

The incident happened at the DOC Reception and Medical Center in Starke, Florida.

Elliot was sentenced to life in prison earlier this month for the 2007 death of his 79-year-old mother, Martha Elizabeth Elliot.

The DOC spokesperson says they cannot discuss Elliot's injuries but says he has received appropriate medical care.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and criminal charges may be filed.
