Authorities today are investigating the death of an inmate at the Marion County Jail.
Another inmate found Darrius J. James hanging from his bunk bed by a bed sheet yesterday.
Corrections officers were unable to revive him after 30 minutes of CPR, said Marion County Sheriff's Capt. James Pogue. He was transported to Munroe Regional Medical center where he was pronounced dead at 11:11 a.m.
James, 22, of Citra, had been in jail since June 30 after arrests for home invasion robbery and four violations of probation for drug-related charges, Pogue said. His cell was located in the general population of inmates.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting an investigation into the death and the Medical Examiners Office will perform an autopsy today.
The death appeared to be a suicide and no foul play was suspected, said Sgt. David Hopkins.
