Florida prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for a man accused of killing two former Danbury residents in 1991.
Paul and Rita Stasny were killed in their Port Charlotte, Fla., home just before Christmas.
The homicides went unsolved until March, when a Florida law enforcement task force announced an indictment charging Jeremy Sly, 37, with the killings.
Florida prosecutors filed notice Tuesday saying they are pursuing the death penalty in the case.
"I would like to see the case move forward. He admitted to being involved in that crime," said Melanie Bonjour, the Stasny's daughter. "First and foremost, I want to see that there is a conviction."
Bonjour, who works for the Danbury Health Department, said she is not surprised prosecutors are seeking the death penalty, given the number of alleged victims and Sly's criminal history.
Sly is already serving a life sentence in Florida for beating an elderly woman to death after she woke up during a burglary.
In addition to killing the Stasnys, Sly is suspected of killing a family of four the same night the Stasnys were killed.
Police believe the second family's home was the intended robbery target, but Sly and his accomplices went to the Stasny house by mistake.
Paul and Rita died from multiple gun shot wounds. The house was ransacked and items, including liquor and guns, were stolen.
It is believed that police and prosecutors are still building a case against Sly's accomplices.
The Stasnys lived on Mountain View Terrace for some 20 years before moving to Florida in 1980.
Paul Stasny was a decorated World War II veteran and a retired union carpenter. Rita Stasny worked at a Federal Road department store.
Sly's trial is scheduled to start in December.
