Judge approves death sentence in Panama City Beach police killing
A judge issued a death sentence Wednesday for a Wisconsin man convicted of killing a police officer during a traffic stop.
Circuit Judge Michael Overstreet sentenced Robert Bailey, who was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of Panama City Beach Police Sgt. Kevin Kight, The News Herald of Panama City reported.
Bailey, 24, shot Kight in March 2005 on Panama City Beach.
Bailey, who was on parole out of Wisconsin for an armed burglary, shot Kight because he believed the officer was preparing to arrest him and return him to prison.
A jury recommended a death sentence in February.
