Two Manatee County men are currently on Florida's death row
Two Manatee County men are currently on Florida's death row.
They are:
• Melvin Trotter, 46, was sentenced May 18, 1987, for the fatal stabbing of Virgie Langford, 70, during a robbery at her Palmetto grocery store on June 16, 1986.
• Daniel Burns Jr., 62, was sentenced June 2, 1988, for shooting Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Jeffrey Young, during a traffic stop on Aug. 18, 1987, on Interstate 75, in Manatee County.
Two other men are in the Manatee County jail awaiting trial on charges they killed multiple
members of their respective families.
They are:
• Richard Henderson Jr., charged with killing his father, Richard Henderson Sr.; mother, Jeaneane Henderson; younger brother, Jake Henderson; and paternal grandmother, June Henderson; in the family's home near Myakka City, on Nov. 24, 2005, Thanksgiving day.
He is scheduled to stand trial in July
• Clifford Davis, charged with killing his mother, Stephanie Ann Davis; and maternal grandfather, Joel Clover Hill; in the Bradenton apartment Davis shared with his mother, on Dec. 5, 2005.
He is scheduled to stand trial in November.
Prosecutors have said they will seek the death penalty for both Henderson and Davis, if they are found guilty.
